Boom Crash Drum Tracks

drum tracks, online drum tracks, online studio drummer

Boom Crash Drum Tracks is an online drum recording service. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, it means you send me a song you need drums recorded for, I record them and then send you the tracks. More on that in a bit...what's most important is the drumming itself and who's providing it.

My name is John O'Reilly Jr. and I'll be playing the drums. I'm a very versatile drummer, comfortable with just about any musical style, but I gravitate towards rock music. To get a sense of my playing, listen to some stuff I've worked on by clicking HERE. So far in my drumming career, I'm proud to have played with fun., The Format, Reubens Accomplice, Jimmy Eat World, Jason Mraz, EL VY, Sam Means, Schuyler Fisk, Rachael Yamagata, Mandy Moore, and Matt Maher. Not only do I play all the drums, I'm also the recording engineer. The benefit is that you get a concise and stylistically coherent experience -- I'll get drum sounds that will be perfect for what your music sounds like, and record them in a way that makes them shine. I'm self-taught as an engineer but consider every recording experience I've done as a mini-internship, picking up engineering skills along the way. I've worked with some of the best producers and engineers in the world, such as John Alagia, Paul Ebersold, Paul Kolderie, Mickey Petralia, Chris Fudurich, Steve McDonald, Jim Adkins, Ken Sluiter, Brian Scheuble, and Jon Altschiller.

The first question I'm always asked is: how exactly does this all work? It's super easy. All I need is a rough version of your song recorded to a click and I'll do the rest. This guide track can be fully produced or hardly produced at all. I just need to get a sense of the overall vibe and have a clear outline of the form.

Once I have a take that I think works, I'll send you an mp3 for your approval. I'll make any changes you'd like, send more mp3s for approval, and once we've agreed on a final take, I'll send you a link to download the files. I can usually deliver your tracks within a day or two of receiving your guide track.

I can provide the drums as processed or unprocessed as you'd like and in whatever file format works best for you. I can even mix them down to two tracks if that's what you need (although this does cost a bit extra). I usually close-mic every drum and use two overheads and two room mics, but I can conform to any specific miking requests you might have. And I'm happy to communicate via audio/video conference or IM while I'm tracking so you can still have real-time production input.
